College Expectations

Dear Parents/Carers

As we approach the end of the first term this letter is to clarify the expectations the College has with regard to uniform and conduct.

Mobile Phones

Students are permitted to bring mobile phones onto the College site as long as they are switched off and in their bags.  “On Site Out Of Sight”.  We now ask that parents refrain from calling/messaging students during the College day.  If a parent has an urgent message contact should be made with the College and a message will then be passed on.  Please be aware that our Mobile Phone Policy states that if a student is seen with their mobile phone it will be confiscated and only returned to a parent/carer.  Students are not to use mobile phones at College and phones should only be removed from bags once they have left the College gates.

Attendance and Punctuality

College starts promptly at 8.40 each day with registration in House Tutor groups.  This is an extremely important part of the day as it is a time when students are notified of important messages etc.  It is therefore essential that students arrive on time to College each day.  If your son is going to be absent from College please can you notify our attendance officer on or 020 8300 7112 and follow the instructions.  You will need to state your son’s name, house, tutor group and reason for absence.

As you know the College uniform consists of black trousers, white shirt, black blazer with a Kemnal badge, a Kemnal tie with a house badge attached and black shoes.   If a student arrives without the correct uniform the College reserves the right to send students home so they can return with the full and correct uniform.  There are no exceptions.  If a student does not wear the correct shoes the College will provide a “loan” pair for the day unless a medical note from a doctor is provided.  Refusal to comply with any rules regarding the College uniform may result in a student being placed in isolation for the day.

As the cold weather sets in we remind students and parents that a coat is considered the appropriate outerwear.  We reiterate that “hoodies” are not to be worn or permitted on the College site.  Students defying that take the risk of them being confiscated.

KTC expects all students to attend College every day with a bag and pencil case.  We do ask for parents to support this and ensure that students have a fully equipped pencil case so they are ready for the day.

Parents are reminded that all fizzy and energy drinks are not permitted in College.  Any students caught with such a drink will have it confiscated and it will not be returned.

Aerosol Cans

The SLT have made the decision, effective from 31 October 2016, that due to the health and safety of the College community that all aerosol cans are banned and not permitted on site.  Any students caught with an aerosol can will have it confiscated and not returned.

Please note that failure to adhere to any of the above may result in serious sanctions being set.

As always, we thank you for supporting the above and wish you a very happy half term break.

Yours faithfully

Ms Kate McDermott
