The College is looking to appoint a temporary Behaviour Support Mentor to join our Behaviour Team until July 2020.   The successful candidate will work to promote the College’s Behaviour Policy as well as directly working with identified individual and/or groups of students to help overcome barriers to learning, improve behaviour and raise achievement. 

We believe this is an exciting opportunity for a hard-working professional to work with students of all needs and from all backgrounds to provide enrichment activities aimed at improving students’ social skills and to promote the College’s vision and ethos.

The successful applicant will have experience of working with young people and be confident in managing challenging behavioural situations in a calm and proactive manner.  They will have exceptional interpersonal skills, be used to dealing with students, teachers and parents, have excellent ICT skills and the ability to work under pressure and manage their time effectively.  Ideally, they will have the knowledge and experience of applying restorative justice.

The role is 36 hours per week, term time only including INSET days.

Responsible for

  • Support members of staff in the implementation of College’s Behaviour Policy
  • Offering support and mentoring to students

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Carry out all duties and responsibilities in accordance with College policies and procedures and statutory requirements.
  • Work under the instruction/guidance of Head of Behaviour to provide intervention and support for students with additional educational needs in a variety of learning environments. 
  • Monitoring students as required.
  • Communicate effectively with parents/carers.
  • Bring to the attention of teaching staff, the Inclusion Co-ordinator and the Head of Learning Support any problems, concerns, achievements and other factors relevant to the learning of any AEN students.
  • Ensure accurate records and observations are kept so that students receive the maximum benefit from their education.
  • Carry out any other duties as directed by the Headteacher commensurate with the general level of responsibility of the post.
  • To monitor and take part in observations in lessons to ensure the College Behaviour Policy is being applied
  • To undertake daily break, lunch before and school duties.
  • As part of a team, to ensure that students attend their sanctions
  • To take part in relevant CPD sessions to enhance the role
  • To be a First Aider
  • To run Mentoring Sessions and apply any CPD
  • To be on the Safeguarding Team

Accountability and Discretion

  • To take, and be accountable for, all decisions made within the parameters of the job description


Performance Management

  • The standards of the post holder will be measured through Kemnal Technology College’s appraisal system by setting targets linked to this job description.  The job description will be reviewed annually at the appraisal meeting.

Discipline, Health and Safety

  • Work in accordance with the guidelines set out in The Kemnal Academies Trust (TKAT) Health and Safety Policy.
