  • Be able to plan and set up recording sessions that encompass a variety of techniques
  • Be able to undertake a range of roles in the recording and production of contrasting multi-track material
  • Be able to complete effective stereo mixes of the multi-track recordings
  • Be able to edit and CD master the material

 

Planning a Music Recording

  • Understand the related roles and relationships within the studio and across the industry
  • Understand the organisational process when planning and completing the production process
  • Be able to produce financial records
  • Be able to undertake personal responsibilities, and review the process at its conclusion

 

Sound Recording Techniques

  • Be able to use a range of microphones
  • Be able to produce a multi-track recording
  • Be able to complete the mixing of the recorded tracks
  • Be able to complete a final stereo master recording

 

Computer Music Systems

  • Understand the terminology and system requirements associated with computer music systems
  • Be able to set up a specific computer and its peripheral audio hardware safely
  • Be able to set up a specific computer and peripheral MIDI hardware safely
  • Be able to create music that combines internal and external sound sources

 

Operating Live Sound

  • Understand the equipment requirements for a range of venues, taking into consideration the different acoustic properties involved
  • Be able to set up and test a sound system for a range of applications showing due regard for health and safety procedure
  • Be able to understand and operate equipment for live sound reinforcement over a range of contrasting material

 

The Sound and Music Industry

  • Know the function of four different areas of the sound and music industry and how they relate to the broader entertainment industry
  • Understand the professional roles and career opportunities within a chosen area of the music industry
  • Know the working patterns in the music business
  • Understand the importance of royalties in the sound and music industry
