Media

We study the AQA Media Studies course - Specification

The course consists of 60% coursework. You will study print, video and e-media texts to understand how they relate to the audience and get across their message. You will undertake pre-production work in these media forms and full production work using two media platforms.

Much of the work has a practical bias but knowledge and analysis of existing media texts is important to understanding how the media works.

Unit 1 Investigating the Media – 1 hour 30 minute exam
You will study a set topic and have to show your knowledge through written responses to questions and creative responses such as storyboarding or writing a script.

Unit 2 Understanding the Media – three coursework tasks including pre-production and production.

Film Studies

We study the WJEC Film Studies course - Specification

The course consists of 50% coursework and 50% exam.

Paper 1 - Exploring Film (30% overall) - 1hour 30 minutes - Superheros
Four compulsory questions focusing on one film genre. These questions will assess knowledge and understanding of film language and key industry and audience issues.

Paper 2 - Exploring Film Outside Hollywood (20% Overall) - 1 hour - Tsotsi
Three compulsory questions on one film produced outside Hollywood.

 characters, narratives, themes and issues in the film chosen
 the way people, places, events and issues are represented in the film and
 a creative question involving individual responses to the film (e.g., reviews, blogs, website entries).
