MATHS

What will I learn throughout my GCSE?

Students will develop the knowledge and skills needed to perform a range of mathematical operations and will develop a well-grounded understanding of methods, concepts and strategies for problem solving within the following areas:

Number, Algebra, Ratio, Proportion and Rates of Change, Geometry and Measures &

Probability and Statistics.

Students acquire the foundations for further study of Mathematics and the confidence to select and apply maths techniques and methods to a range of every day and real world situations. Students will be able to interpret and communicate using mathematical terms and develop an understanding of the role of mathematics in modern society.

How will I be assessed?

Mathematics is amongst the first subjects where students will be graded from 9 to 1 (previously A* to G).  The new GCSE, will be assessed through 3 separate exam papers, each being 1hour and 30 minutes long. Two of the papers are calculator exams and there is no coursework.

How to improve your grade

Use the revision resources below and take on board the advice from your teacher. We do not sell revision guides but any GCSE revision guide for the Mathematics Edexcel exam board will be OK.

Students can progress onto Mathematics or Further Mathematics  A-level or a course containing mathematical elements, such as business and finance, science or design & technology. A good qualification in Mathematics will open the door to many career opportunities within industries such as Engineering, Accountancy, Landscaping, Interior Design and the Financial Industries.
